Acceptable Use and Messaging Policy
This policy applies to every message and call sent through Star72 LLC (“Star72”). It follows the CTIA Messaging Principles and Best Practices, The Campaign Registry's 10DLC rules and the major U.S. carriers' codes of conduct. Breaking it can get your messages blocked and your account closed.
Consent (opt-in)
Every recipient must give express consent to receive your messages before you send any, and that consent must cover the kind of messages you send: consent to account notifications is not consent to marketing. Marketing messages need express written consent. Tell people, at the moment they opt in, who will text them, what about, how often, that message and data rates may apply, and how to opt out and get help. Send a confirmation message as soon as someone opts in. Keep a record of each consent (who, when, how and what they agreed to) for at least four years, and give it to us or a carrier when asked.
Never message purchased, rented, borrowed, shared or scraped lists, or numbers you collected for a different purpose.
Opt-out and help
Recipients can opt out at any time by replying STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, REVOKE or OPTOUT. Star72 records the opt-out automatically and blocks every later message from your account to that number until the recipient replies START, UNSTOP or YES. Replying HELP or INFO returns the help message registered for your campaign, which must name your business and say how to reach you. Remove opted-out numbers from your own lists as well, and do not ask people to opt back in by text.
Say how to opt out in the first message you send to each person and regularly after that, for example “Reply STOP to opt out.”
Identify yourself
Put your business or brand name in your messages, so recipients and carriers know who is texting and why. Each message must match the use case and sample messages of the 10DLC campaign its number is registered to. Use separate numbers for separate use cases (for example, appointment reminders and marketing), and register each with its own campaign.
Links
Use full links on a domain you own. Public link shorteners (such as bit.ly, tinyurl.com or goo.gl) are not allowed, because they hide where a link goes and carriers block them. A branded shortener is allowed only if its domain is used by you alone.
Spam
Do not send messages people did not ask for, send more often than you told them you would, or keep messaging people who do not respond. Do not spread the same traffic across many numbers to avoid carrier filters (“snowshoeing”), rotate or replace numbers to get around blocking, change message wording to get past filters, or hide or fake your sender identity or caller ID.
Prohibited content
You may not use Star72 to send messages about or promoting any of the following:
- SHAFT content: sex, hate, alcohol, firearms and tobacco (including vaping and e-cigarettes)
- Cannabis, CBD and illegal or illicit drugs
- Gambling, casinos, bingo, sweepstakes, contests and "free prize" offers
- High-risk financial services: payday and short-term loans, high-risk or subprime lending, auto, mortgage and student loan marketing, debt collection, debt consolidation, reduction or forgiveness, credit repair and tax relief
- Third-party insurance (such as car or health insurance) and investment opportunities, including cryptocurrency offers
- Gift card offers, commission programs, work-from-home offers, get-rich-quick schemes and multi-level marketing
- Lead generation, affiliate marketing and recruiting messages sent to people who did not ask for them
- Social media marketing to people who did not ask for it
- Counterfeit goods and replica brands
- Phishing: messages that pretend to be a bank, government agency, delivery company or any other business in order to get passwords, codes, card numbers or personal details
- Fraud, scams and deceptive marketing, including false urgency, fake prizes and misleading sender names
- Malware, and links to sites that install software or collect credentials
Some age-restricted industries can be registered with carriers under special campaign types with age verification. Contact us before sending any such traffic; without our written approval it is prohibited.
Voice
No robocalls or prerecorded calls without the consent the law requires, no spoofed or misleading caller ID, and no calls that break the TCPA, the Telemarketing Sales Rule, the National Do Not Call Registry or state law.
Blocking and enforcement
We check every business before it can send, and may review messages and traffic patterns for abuse. We block messages to opted-out numbers automatically. We may also block messages, pause or release numbers, suspend campaigns or close accounts that break this policy, carrier rules or the law, or that carriers report for spam, phishing or fraud, without notice when needed to stop harm. Carriers can also filter or block messages on their own. If your messages are blocked and you believe it was a mistake, write to support@star72.com with the sending number, an example message and how the recipient opted in.
Report spam or phishing
If you received an unwanted or suspicious message from a Star72 number, forward it to 7726 (SPAM) on your phone and email support@star72.com with the sending number, the message and the time you got it. We investigate every report.
